22,000 MW solar capacity by 2026–27, Uttar Pradesh is aggressively expanding its renewable energy footprint by integrating mega solar parks, rooftop solar, and distributed generation, powering homes, industries, and transport corridors. As of July 2025, the state has already installed over 1.2 lakh (120,000) rooftop solar systems under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with a goal of reaching 8 lakh installations by 2027, offering eligible households up to ₹1.08 lakh in subsidies and 300 units of free electricity per month. Additionally, the scheme offers 300 units of free electricity per month to beneficiaries. On the EV front, UP has registered over 414,000 electric vehicles, supported by 2,326 public charging stations and 743 electric buses, making the state a national model for sustainable mobility. These initiatives collectively contribute to industrial growth, job creation, and reduced carbon emissions, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leader in clean energy adoption and green transportation in India.

The state is aggressively expanding its EV ecosystem. On the public transport front, Uttar Pradesh is transitioning buses and government fleets to fully electric, and smart city initiatives are incorporating EV mobility as a core component of urban planning. Incentives and subsidies continue to lower adoption barriers for both consumers and manufacturers, cementing UP’s position as a national EV leader. Additionally, collaborations with private players and international partners are fostering innovation in EV design, battery management, and renewable-powered charging solutions, further cementing UP’s position as a national and emerging global leader in electric mobility.

Promoting green hydrogen, bioenergy, and bio-CNG projects to diversify its clean energy portfolio and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Waste-to-energy initiatives are converting agricultural and urban residues into electricity, supporting circular economy practices and providing reliable energy sources. These efforts not only enhance energy security and reduce carbon emissions but also create new opportunities for entrepreneurship, industrial growth, and skilled employment, reinforcing Uttar Pradesh’s vision of a green, innovation-driven economy. By integrating these emerging technologies with existing renewable energy infrastructure, the state is positioning itself as a pioneer in sustainable and inclusive energy development.

While making significant strides in clean energy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated of its first green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur. Developed by the Torrent Group, this facility is only the second of its kind in India and aims to reduce carbon emissions by integrating hydrogen with compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG). In the electric vehicle sector, UP is setting benchmarks with its comprehensive EV policy, which includes subsidies for upstream infrastructure investments, making it the first state in India to do so. These initiatives demonstrate the state’s commitment to fostering a sustainable, innovation-driven economy, while promoting industrial growth, environmental responsibility, and social inclusivity. By integrating renewable energy projects with electric mobility, Uttar Pradesh is creating new employment opportunities, supporting local entrepreneurship, and enhancing energy access across urban and rural areas.

Looking ahead, Uttar Pradesh aims to strengthen its renewable energy and EV ecosystem through strategic initiatives under UPITS, leveraging the platform to attract investment, showcase innovation, and promote sustainable technologies.
