New Delhi | July 30, 2025 : BJP President and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda, launched a strong attack on the previous Congress-led UPA government, accusing it of taking no action during a series of deadly terrorist attacks in India.

Speaking in Parliament during a special debate on Operation Sindoor, Nadda said that during the UPA’s time in power, India faced multiple bomb blasts and terror incidents, but the government continued to engage with Pakistan through trade and dialogue.

“Woh hume goliyon se bhunte rahe aur hum unko biryani khilane chale…” (They kept firing bullets at us, and we went to serve them biryani), he said sharply, highlighting what he called the insensitivity of the past administration.

A List of Tragedies Without Action
Nadda listed several terror attacks, including:

2005 Delhi serial bomb blasts, which killed 67 people and injured 200 just before Diwali.

2006 Varanasi bomb blast, which killed 28 and injured 100 at the Sankat Mochan temple and railway station.

2006 Mumbai train bombings, where over 200 were killed and 700 injured in a coordinated attack.

2007 Gorakhpur bombings, which killed 11 people.

2008 Jaipur bomb blasts, carried out by the Indian Mujahideen.

According to Nadda, despite these repeated attacks, the UPA government did not take strong steps to fight terrorism. He said the first anti-terrorism meeting after the train blasts happened two months later, and the second one took place seven months after that.

‘No Change in Relations With Pakistan’
Even as terror continued, Nadda said, the government maintained ties with Pakistan. "Trade, tourism, agriculture, and communication exchanges all continued as usual," he said. He criticized the decision to allow cross-border goods carriers through Wagah and Attari even after major terror attacks.

Referring to the 2009 SCO Summit, he said, “There was no mention of any bomb blasts at all.” He also quoted a former UPA defence minister as saying that an undeveloped border is safer than a developed one. “This mindset kept the nation in darkness,” Nadda said.

To explain the contrast, he said: “You can only appreciate the full moon (progress) when you’ve understood the new moon (darkness),” pointing at the lack of decisive action during the UPA years.

‘New India Has Zero Tolerance for Terrorism’
Turning his focus to the current government’s record, Nadda highlighted India’s response under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that after the 2016 Uri attack, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes and destroyed terror camps across the border — a historic step.

“This was the first time since 1947 that a Prime Minister openly vowed retaliation and followed through,” he added.

He also said that under Modi's leadership, local terrorism in Kashmir has dropped, and the average life span of a terrorist is now just 7 days.

“Kashmir hasn’t shut down even for one day in the past three years. That’s the difference between now and then.”

Nadda concluded by saying that this change was made possible because of the current government’s clear vision and zero tolerance policy against terrorism.
