जलना विदर्भ :
Jalna, Vidarbha | July 1, 2025 : In a shocking incident from Jalna district in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, a 33-year-old man named Suresh Arjhad was found murdered. Police say that his killing is linked to an ongoing conflict over illegal sand mining in the area.
According to reports, Suresh had been kidnapped and later killed, and his body was discovered in a vacant plot. The incident has caused fear and anger among local residents, especially because Suresh was known for speaking out against sand mafia activities in the region.
Police officials stated that Suresh had openly opposed the sand mafia for quite some time. He had raised his voice against the illegal extraction of sand from rivers and land, which he believed was causing damage to the environment and helping criminals earn money through illegal means. His strong stand made him a target.
The police have arrested four people suspected to be members of the local sand mafia. They are now being questioned to find out more about their involvement and to identify other people connected to the crime. Investigators believe that the murder was planned in advance and not a random act.
Suresh’s efforts to stop illegal sand mining had earned him support from many in the local community, but it also put his life at risk. He had been receiving threats, according to some of his friends and family members, though no formal complaint had been lodged before.
The illegal sand trade has become a serious issue in many parts of Maharashtra, especially in districts like Jalna. Sand is used heavily in construction, and illegal mining operations often ignore environmental laws. Many of these activities are carried out at night and involve powerful people with political or criminal connections.
Residents of Jalna say they have been complaining about illegal sand mining for years, but action is rarely taken. They believe this murder shows how dangerous the situation has become. “If someone dares to speak up, this is what happens,” said one villager, afraid to reveal their name.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges of kidnapping, murder, and criminal conspiracy. Officials have assured the public that strict action will be taken. They also said more patrolling and checks will be done in sand mining zones to stop illegal work.
Senior police officers have visited the site, and additional security has been provided to prevent any unrest. Environmental activists have also demanded stronger laws and better protection for those who speak up against such illegal activities.
Suresh Arjhad’s death is now being seen as a wake-up call to tackle illegal sand mining more seriously. His family and supporters are asking for justice, and authorities have promised a fair and speedy investigation.
