Back in 2020, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train changed the landscape of anime films. Ufotable transformed a story arc originally crafted for television into a cinematic masterpiece, blending heart-pounding action with deeply emotional character beats. It became one of the highest-grossing anime films ever and set expectations sky-high for the franchise’s future.
With Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle, the studio once again steps into that arena. Marketed as the opening film of a concluding trilogy, this installment directly follows Season 4’s Hashira Training Arc. After Muzan Kibutsuji survives the Corps’ failed attempt to defeat him, the Demon Slayers are drawn into the terrifying Infinity Castle — a warped, shifting fortress that serves as Muzan’s lair.
Like Avengers: Infinity War, this is not an entry designed for first-time viewers. Years of storytelling converge here. While flashbacks provide some context, newcomers will struggle to grasp the stakes or appreciate the emotional weight. For long-time fans, however, the scale feels monumental: the true beginning of the end.
The film wastes no time diving into chaos. The Corps members are scattered within the labyrinthine castle, each fighting impossible battles. The narrative splits into three main arcs: Shinobu’s brutal fight against Upper Rank Two, Zenitsu’s long-awaited moment of reckoning, and the highly anticipated Tanjiro and Giyu showdown with Akaza.
Zenitsu’s storyline is the standout surprise. Often dismissed as comic relief, his arc is layered, emotional, and transformative — redefining his role in the series. Akaza’s backstory is equally riveting, peeling back the layers of his tragic humanity and adding nuance to the familiar theme of demons as once-broken people.
Visually, Ufotable once again proves its mastery. The Infinity Castle itself feels alive, constantly shifting with collapsing floors and endless corridors. The seamless blend of 2D and 3D animation creates battles that are as fluid as they are breathtaking. Every camera movement is intentional, with no wasted frame.
The soundscape amplifies the immersion. Viewed in IMAX, the audio design shines — from the thunder of breathing techniques to the visceral clang of swords, each moment is heightened. Character themes rise at just the right beats, leaving audiences fully absorbed in the spectacle.
Where Infinity Castle falters is pacing. At 155 minutes, the runtime leans heavily on flashbacks. While effective in episodic storytelling, these pauses slow the film’s momentum and occasionally cut into the adrenaline of its most intense fights.
Unlike Mugen Train, this is not a standalone adventure. It’s the first act of a three-part finale, and its unfinished quality is both a drawback and an asset. As a chapter, it sets the stage brilliantly, but as a self-contained film, it lacks the same punch.
Despite these flaws, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle remains an unmissable cinematic experience. For longtime fans, it is a dazzling and emotional ride best enjoyed on the biggest screen possible. It may not achieve perfection, but it reaffirms why Demon Slayer continues to set the gold standard for anime storytelling and visuals.
Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Review
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle hits Indian theatres on September 12, bringing fans the first part of a breathtaking trilogy that will conclude Tanjiro’s saga. The film delivers jaw-dropping visuals, emotional depth, and unforgettable battles, with Zenitsu and Akaza’s arcs stealing the spotlight. The Infinity Castle itself feels alive, a stunning stage for the story’s chaos. While the 155-minute runtime suffers from pacing issues and heavy flashbacks, the sheer spectacle of animation and sound makes this a must-watch on the big screen. For fans, this is the beginning of the endgame — and it’s worth every moment.
