Hyderabad, Aug 25, 2025 : Telangana police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his pregnant wife and attempting to dispose of her body in Hyderabad’s suburbs, triggering shock and outrage across the state. The accused, Mahender, a 21-year-old driver employed with a ride-hailing service, reportedly killed his 21-year-old wife, Swathi, who was five months pregnant, in their Balaji Hills home in the Medipalli area.

According to police, the horrific incident occurred on Saturday around 4:30 pm. Mahender allegedly killed Swathi, then dismembered her body. He disposed of her head, hands, and legs in the Musi River but was caught while trying to discard the remaining torso, which remained hidden inside his house.

The couple, originally from Kamareddyguda in Vikarabad district, had married after a love match and moved to Balaji Hills. Following the murder, Mahender contacted his sister, claiming that his wife was missing. His sister grew suspicious and informed a relative, who escorted him to a local police station. During questioning, Mahender initially repeated that Swathi was missing but soon confessed to killing her, DCP of the Malkajgiri Zone, P. V. Padmaja, confirmed.

Authorities have collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. The woman’s torso, recovered from the house, will undergo DNA testing to confirm her identity. Divers are continuing efforts to locate the body parts thrown into the Musi River. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, and police have indicated that a fast-track investigation and trial will follow.

Swathi’s father shared that he had occasional disagreements with Mahender, after which they had ceased speaking. “My daughter would say they were doing fine, but he tortured her all the time. He should suffer the same way he made my daughter suffer,” he said, expressing grief and anger over the brutal murder.

The case has sparked public outrage due to its gruesome nature, compounded by the fact that Swathi was five months pregnant. Police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in locating the remaining body parts and ensuring the accused faces justice.

Investigators continue to probe the motives behind the murder, looking into marital disputes and any history of domestic abuse. Authorities have emphasized the importance of forensic analysis and are committed to ensuring that the crime is thoroughly investigated and prosecuted under applicable law.

The chilling nature of this case has drawn attention to the rising concerns about domestic violence and the vulnerability of women in marital relationships. Law enforcement agencies in Telangana have vowed to pursue justice swiftly for Swathi and her unborn child, underlining the commitment to address heinous crimes against women.
