नई दिल्ली (डेस्क) : New Delhi (Desk), 6 August : On the final morning of a tightly fought India–England Test series, Mohammed Siraj woke up with the sunrise—two hours earlier than usual. His hotel room remained still, but his heart beat with determination. He unlocked his phone and searched for Cristiano Ronaldo’s photo—the one captioned “Believe.” This wasn’t a routine. It was his way of channeling greatness, a reminder that elite performances begin with belief long before the first delivery is bowled.
The stakes were high. India needed something extraordinary to square the series, and Siraj felt the expectations. Yet, it wasn’t pressure—it was power,
Siraj’s SENA Domination: A Fifer, a Historic Win, and a New Benchmark
The right-arm pacer delivered a sensational five-wicket haul that powered India to defend 373 on Day 5. Thanks to his efforts, England fell just six runs short. Siraj, who wrapped up the series with 23 wickets, has been in top form during India’s Test victories in SENA countries. Here’s a look at his numbers.
As per Cricbuzz, Siraj is the only player to feature in each of India’s SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) Test wins in the current decade. India registered three Test wins in Australia (2020, 2021, and 2024), four in England (2021 and 2025), and two in South Africa (2021 and 2024). Across these nine wins, Siraj has claimed 51 wickets at an average of 18.92, including four five-wicket hauls.
Only one other Indian bowler has taken over 30 wickets in these matches—Jasprit Bumrah, who has 34 wickets at 15.88, including two fifers. Bumrah played a key role in six of these wins.
Since January 1, 2020, Siraj is one of only two Indian pacers to claim over 50 Test wickets in SENA nations. He has picked up 91 wickets in 23 matches at an average of 31.04. He ranks behind only Bumrah, who leads with 110 wickets in 24 SENA Tests at an average of 21.27. Mohammed Shami follows with 40 wickets in the same period.
Siraj’s standout performance in the recent Test also saw him surpass the legendary Kapil Dev’s tally of Test wickets in England. Siraj now has 46 wickets in England from 11 Tests at an average of 33.21, overtaking Kapil’s 43 wickets. Among Indian bowlers in England, only Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma are ahead, with 51 wickets each.
It’s worth mentioning that Siraj made his Test debut during the 2020/21 Boxing Day Test against Australia. He took five wickets in that match, which marked the first of India’s nine SENA Test victories in this decade.
directed by words that didn’t come from a coach or a quote, but from a teammate and friend. Ravindra Jadeja had quietly taken him aside the previous night. “Tomorrow, bowl for your late father. Let every delivery be a memory,” he said, placing a hand on Siraj’s shoulder. Those words struck deeper than any bouncer.
As he laced up his boots, Siraj wasn’t just carrying the hopes of a nation. He carried legacy. His father, who once drove an auto-rickshaw to keep his son’s dream alive, was present in every seam movement, every sprint to the crease, and every roar after a wicket. Chasing a modest total, England got caught in Siraj’s spell. His deliveries weren’t just quick—they were intimate. They spoke stories. They surged with intent. They demanded attention.
Five wickets. A collapse. A celebration filled with emotion. When the final English batter fell, Siraj didn’t raise his fist. He looked skyward. Amid the noise, there was a fleeting calm—where memory touched the sky.
He was awarded Man of the Match, but the honor was secondary. What truly mattered was the belief that began at dawn, the quiet encouragement from Jadeja that reignited a fire, and a spell that was more than just cricket—it was a heartfelt tribute.
