New Delhi, 11 May : In a landmark press conference held today at the National Media Centre (NMC), the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) addressed the nation, shedding light on India’s robust military and diplomatic response to the horrific April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. The brutality of the incident, which shocked the conscience of the nation, prompted swift and comprehensive action by the government.

Cabinet Committee on Security’s Major Decisions

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) took a series of hard-hitting decisions to isolate Pakistan and dismantle its terror-support infrastructure:
• Indus Waters Treaty Suspended: The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 has been held in abeyance until Pakistan irreversibly ends its support for cross-border terrorism.
• Closure of Attari Check Post: The Integrated Check Post at Attari has been shut down. However, individuals who entered India with valid endorsements will be permitted to return before May 1, 2025.
• Visa Restrictions for Pakistani Nationals: Travel under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme has been suspended for Pakistani citizens.
• Diplomatic Reductions: Military, Naval, and Air Advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata. The total strength of Pakistan’s diplomatic staff in India will be cut from 55 to 30 by May 1, 2025.

Operation Sindoor: A Calculated and Surgical Response

In a bold move aimed at punishing the perpetrators and dismantling terror infrastructure, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor. The operation was meticulously planned and executed based on precise, multi-agency intelligence.
• Target Identification: Through a microscopic intelligence scan, 9 high-value terror camps were identified across the border. Key camps in Bhawalpur and Muridke—known training hubs—were among the prime targets.
• Ethical Conduct: Despite the intensity of the operation, Indian forces operated under a strict code of restraint to avoid civilian casualties and collateral damage.

Significant Achievements of the Strikes

The operation resulted in a heavy blow to terror outfits operating from Pakistani soil:
• Terror Casualties: Over 100 terrorists were eliminated.
• Infrastructure Destruction: 11 Pakistani air bases were destroyed.
• High-Value Eliminations: Top terrorists including Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudassir Ahmad—key figures behind the IC-814 hijack and Pulwama attack—were neutralized.
• Strategic Strikes: India also targeted and destroyed radar installations in Lahore and Gurjanwala, disrupting Pakistan’s surveillance capabilities.

Ceasefire Agreement and Pakistan’s Violation

Following the extensive damage inflicted, the Pakistani DGMO reached out to his Indian counterpart, and both sides agreed to halt all military operations—on land, sea, and air—effective 1700 IST on May 10, 2025.

However, in a breach of ceasefire spirit, Pakistan continued hostile actions through drone intrusions into Indian military and civilian zones. These UAVs were successfully intercepted by Indian defense systems.

India’s Stern Warning

India’s armed forces responded swiftly and strongly to these provocations. All field commanders have now been granted full authority to retaliate decisively in case of any future violations of the ceasefire.

India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre marks a new chapter in the country’s counter-terrorism doctrine—rooted in precision, restraint, and resolve. The government and armed forces have sent a clear message: any attack on Indian soil will be met with swift, decisive, and proportionate retribution.
